Restoring from a backup

After a failure or migration: get your system, apps and data back safely.

Restoring is the moment backups pay off. rumahl verifies the data before restoring and overwrites nothing until the verification succeeded.

Restoring your system

  1. 1Install rumahl OS fresh on the target device (see the installation guide).
  2. 2Open Settings → Backup → Restore.
  3. 3Select the backup (USB, NAS or remote) — rumahl verifies checksums and integrity.
  4. 4Confirm the restore — the system is recreated with the saved settings, apps and data.
  5. 5After reboot: log in with your old credentials and check everything.

When to make a manual backup

  • Before major updates and moves
  • Before attaching new storage hardware or rebuilding arrays
  • Before installing experimental apps

Restoring is the one exercise worth practising: run through it once, and you will stay calm in an emergency.
