User profiles & guest mode
Personal desktops, child restrictions and family shares — how profiles work.
4 min readUpdated: 20 August 2026
Profiles turn a family device into personal devices: everyone gets their own desktop, apps, files and dashboards — and parents decide what children may see.
Setting up profiles
- 1Open Settings → System → Family profiles.
- 2Create an account for each person — Standard or Child (with app whitelist).
- 3For child profiles, choose which apps appear in the launcher and the command palette.
Guest mode & family shares
- Guest mode: enable it in the security settings — visitors get a temporary session without persistence
- Family shares: share folders via the Files app context menu (read-only, for all family members)
- After a guest signs out, nothing remains
Guests get a temporary session without persistence — after signing out, nothing remains.
